A little bit about
Faye & Rich
During Faye’s 24 Hour 3 Peaks Challenge training, Faye and Rich headed to Snowdon, Wales. It was whilst staying with friends, who had recently renovated and reopened a B&B in Harlech, that the dream of owning a pub began.
On the long journey home, Faye and Rich talked at length and agreed to have a look around to see what was available in their price range... a map and pin decided that they’d start their search for their dream country pub in Devon.
From Totnes to Tiverton, Dartmoor to Dartmouth, Woolacombe to Winkleigh, several pubs were viewed, but oddly not the Kings Arms. The Land Lord at The Portsmouth Arms, where Rich and Faye were staying while looking, suggested it was worth a visit. A viewing was organised for the next morning and it was love at first sight! It was perfect!
An offer was put in for the pub in November 2017 but the sale unfortunately fell through and Rich and Faye decided to call it a day on pub searching and tried to put the Kings Arms out of their minds.
Fast forward to January 2018, they received a ‘heads up’ that the Kings Arms was up for auction on the 8th February and, after an excited conversation, they decided to bid for the pub and agreed their top price together. Not thinking they stood a chance of winning the auction, Rich bid over the phone, no-one was more surprised than him when the hammer fell and they owned an idyllic pub in Devon! With 20 working days to complete, Beast from the East was incoming and completion happened on the 8th March 2018!
Landlords Rich and Faye opened the doors at 5pm on Friday 9th March 2018 and what a 6 years its been! They’ve re-thatched, repainted, repaired and replaced. They’ve ridden a global pandemic by becoming a grocer and supporting the local community with Supper Clubs and themed takeaways, worked hard to create a fabulous ‘love local’ menu, stocked the bar with amazing local ales, gins and spirits, thrown awesome parties and made sure that the pub has all the very best staff for the job! What’s next? Who knows! Not even Rich and Faye!
